University of Wollongong President Leads Delegation to the School of Mechanical, Electronic and Control Engineering

On the afternoon of October 28, 2025, a delegation led by Professor G.Q. Max Lu AO, President of the University of Wollongong, Australia, visited our university. President Yu Zujun met with the delegation in the Siyuan Building, where they jointly signed a new cooperation agreement for the Mechatronic Engineering joint program.

President Yu Zujun extended a welcome to President G.Q. Max Lu AO and his delegation on behalf of the university. He provided an overview of the university, recounted the history of collaboration between the two institutions, and expressed his hopes for diverse future cooperation. President G.Q. Max Lu AO introduced the educational philosophy and future plans of the University of Wollongong and expressed his gratitude for our university's long-term efforts in enhancing the quality of the Sino-foreign cooperative education program.

Following the meeting, the delegation visited the School of Mechanical, Electronic and Control Engineering (MECE), where Dean Guo Sheng presented an overview of the joint program and its achievements.

President G.Q. Max Lu AO engaged in a cordial conversation with the 2025 incoming students of the Mechatronic Engineering (Sino-foreign Cooperative Program) during their ETS English class. Drawing from his personal experiences, he encouraged the students to cherish the "3+1" dual-degree platform and strive to become outstanding engineers with an international perspective.

Liu YUEMING, Vice Dean of MECE, delivered a detailed report on the development of the cooperative program, covering its history, faculty, curriculum development, special activities, operational management, student outcomes, and future collaboration.

The delegation led by President G.Q. Max Lu AO toured MECE's Robotics Innovation Practice Base and the "Green Power" Energy-Saving Car Team Practice Base, gaining detailed insights into the school's initiatives and achievements in fostering brand-name academic competitions and practical education.

Students from the program demonstrated distinctive projects from the Mechatronic Engineering project-based curriculum to President G.Q. Max Lu AO and the delegation, including intelligent vehicle line-following and small-scale robot control.

The delegation also visited the Integrated Robotics Practice Workstation, the Internet of Things Practice Platform, the automated assembly line, and the VR training facilities.

The tour continued with a visit to the school's University Student Mechanical Museum, the program's distinctive cultural wall, and an exhibition showcasing the achievements of the ten-year partnership, providing the delegation with a deeper understanding of the school's multicultural and educational environment.

The visit by President G.Q. Max Lu AO and his delegation coincided with the launch of a new phase of the cooperative education program in Mechatronic Engineering. This visit provided a comprehensive and in-depth understanding of the program's development, which was highly praised. It has laid a solid foundation of friendship and trust for the continued development of a high-quality cooperative education program and for expanding collaboration into areas such as joint postgraduate training, scientific research cooperation, and exchanges for young scholars.
