1.The evolution and development of energy and power engineering
"Energy and Power Engineering" is a traditional advantageous discipline of Beijing Jiaotong University. Its predecessor was the discipline of "Locomotive Internal Engine" founded in 1950s. "Locomotive internal combustion engine" specialty has cultivated a large number of excellent talents for our country, especially for the railway industry in the 20th century.
In 1990s, according to the needs of social development for talent cultivation, professional fields gradually expanded; "Locomotive internal combustion engine" specialty of Beijing Jiaotong University has gradually changed from pure locomotive internal combustion engine to small internal combustion engine (vehicle engine) specialty, which mainly focuses on automobile and engine.
In April 2000, Beijing Jiaotong University joined hands with Beijing Electric Power College. According to the professional characteristics, the discipline of "Internal Combustion Engine" of Beijing Jiaotong University at that time and the discipline of "Thermal Power of Power Plant" of Beijing Electric Power College were combined to form the discipline of "Thermal Energy and Power Engineering". Since 2001, the major of "Thermal Energy and Power Engineering" (direction of automotive engineering) has been formally recruited.
According to the requirements of the Ministry of Education, from 2013, the specialty of thermal and power engineering has been renamed as the specialty of energy and power engineering. At present, the major of Energy and Power Engineering of Beijing Jiaotong University includes two major directions: automobile and engine direction and thermal engineering direction. From the second semester of junior year, students can choose the direction of automobile and engine or thermal engineering according to their own characteristics and preferences.
At present, more than 90 undergraduate students are enrolled in the major of Energy and Power Engineering of Beijing Jiaotong University every year. More than 1000 excellent graduates have been sent to China's energy and power engineering industry.
2.Enrollment, length of schooling and graduation requirements
The standard academic system for the major of Energy and Power Engineering in Beijing Jiaotong University is 4 years and the length of study can be 3-6 years. It plans to enroll more than 90 students in three classes each year.
Students majoring in "Energy and Power Engineering" can obtain a bachelor's degree in "Energy and Power Engineering" after they have completed the credit required in the training plan and meet the requirements of the Regulations on Management of Undergraduate Student Status of Beijing Jiaotong University. Students who meet the requirements of graduation and the requirements of the Implementation Rules for Granting Bachelor's Degrees to General Undergraduates by Beijing Jiaotong University may grant Bachelor's Degree of Engineering upon the examination and approval of the Academic Degrees Committee of the University.
3.Teaching and training objectives

4.Teaching and training objectives
The energy and Power Engineering major of BJTU has a well-structured and excellent faculty, with 28 teachers at present. Among them, there are 7 professors (doctoral supervisors), 9 associate professors, 12 lecturers, 1 selected by the New Century Excellent Talents Program of the Ministry of Education, 1 winner of Gm China Science and Technology Achievement Award, and 7 excellent lecturers of Beijing Jiaotong University. The teachers are mainly young and middle-aged, and the backbone teachers have doctoral degrees and overseas research experience.
The practice platform of "Energy and Power Engineering" major of Beijing Jiaotong University mainly relies on the Key Laboratory of "New Energy Vehicle Powertrain Technology" of Beijing and the Key Laboratory of "Vehicle Advanced Manufacturing and Measurement and Control Technology" of The Ministry of Education (shared with other majors). At present, there are several experimental platforms and calculation and analysis platforms for gas and liquid fuel combustion, engine electronic control technology, diesel engine combustion and emission control, engine cooling, hybrid power system, heat and mass transfer, pulsating heat pipe, proton exchange membrane fuel cell, micro-scale boiling, mixed gas condensation, etc. It has a number of practical teaching bases for undergraduates and postgraduates, such as thermal engineering laboratory, combustion laboratory, engine laboratory and disassembly laboratory, and has the hardware foundation for cultivating high-level undergraduates and postgraduates.
5.Employment and further study
In recent years, the employment rate of energy and Power Engineering in BJTU has been above 98%. Graduates have broad and good employment prospects.

Corresponding to the undergraduate program of "Energy and Power Engineering" of BJTU, there are 3 postgraduate programs of "Power Machinery and Engineering", "Engineering Thermophysics" and "Thermal Engineering", and 3 doctoral programs of "Vehicle Operation Process", "Vehicle Engineering" and "Mechanical Engineering". More than 30 graduate students are enrolled every year. Over the past three years, the average rate of students pursuing master's degrees and doctoral degrees at nTU or other universities is around 40%.
