The predecessor of the vehicle engineering major of Beijing Jiaotong University is railway vehicles, diesel locomotives and other majors established in 1958. The vehicle application engineering discipline supported by the major is a national key discipline, and the vehicle engineering discipline is a key discipline of the Ministry of railways. The proportion of further study of students exceeds 35% every year.

 

After the school was put under the management of the Ministry of education from the Ministry of Railways in 2000, The specialty name was changed to mechanical engineering and automation (railway rolling stock), but the railway characteristics have not changed! In 2007, the specialty of mechanical engineering and automation (railway rolling stock) was successively approved by the national characteristic specialty and the construction project of Beijing characteristic specialty; in 2011, the specialty name was changed to vehicle engineering with the approval of the Ministry of education.

 

Cultivate engineering and technical talents with solid mathematical and natural science foundation, systematic professional knowledge of vehicle engineering, engineering practice ability and professional expression ability, and can be engaged in rail transit vehicle design and manufacturing, technology development and application research, operation management, etc.

 

Up to now, this major has trained nearly 5000 undergraduates for the railway industry. The trained graduates are in short supply in the rail transit industry. Many have become leading talents in the field of locomotive and vehicle design, manufacturing, application and management.

   

In the process of realizing the transformation of high-speed EMU from "made in China" to "created in China", this major gives full play to more than 50 years of professional construction experience and solid foundation of rail vehicles, keeps pace with the times, relies on national key disciplines, scientific research support and school enterprise cooperation, continuously strengthens the construction of professional connotation, and solves how the knowledge structure and ability of characteristic professionals meet the needs of industry development The "win-win" mechanism for schools and enterprises to jointly carry out talent training, and how discipline advantages lead professional development.

 

This major has successively become a national characteristic specialty, the pilot specialty of the first batch of excellent engineer cultivation plan, and a national comprehensive reform demonstration specialty;

 

Cooperate with enterprises to establish two national engineering practice education centers and two Beijing Municipal off campus talent training bases, independently developed the country's first EMU professional teaching experimental platform, supported the construction of the "12th Five Year Plan" national experimental teaching demonstration center of Mechanical Engineering Experimental Center, and formed an integrated practice platform combining inside and outside the school; It has built a series of professional EMU courses closely related to the cutting-edge technology of the industry, published the first set of undergraduate EMU series textbooks for colleges and universities in China, and won one national high-quality textbook and four provincial and ministerial high-quality textbooks; It has created a double tutor teaching team with high academic level, strong practical ability and rich teaching experience. The "EMU series course teaching team" has been rated as an excellent teaching team in Beijing and the "capital education pioneer" advanced collective. The person in charge of professional construction has been rated as a famous teaching teacher in Beijing; By means of "3 + 1", "3 + 1 + 2" and on-the-job training, a number of high-level talents urgently needed in the industry have been trained.
