The specialty of measurement and control technology and instrument of Beijing Jiaotong University was established in 1987. It was officially established with the approval of the State Education Commission in 1989. It was formerly called detection technology and instrument, and began enrollment in the same year. So far, it has 20 graduates.
In 1998, the Ministry of Education issued a new catalogue of undergraduate majors, which merged 11 majors in instrumentation into one major - Measurement and control technology and instruments. This major is set up in the Department of testing and control engineering of the School of mechanical and electronic control engineering. At present, 90 undergraduates are enrolled every year.
The Department of detection and control engineering has two master's degree programs in mechatroinc engineering, detection technology and automation device and one doctor's degree program in mechatronic engineering. Graduates majoring in measurement and control technology and instruments can choose to study for master's degree or doctor's degree directly.
Measurement and control technology and instrument major pays attention to "electromechanical combination" in the process of student training, integrates the achievements of teaching reform in our university in recent years, and fully reflects the teaching characteristics of "wide caliber, thick foundation, emphasis on personality, strong ability and innovation". The first two years are devoted to the study of mathematics and natural foundation, humanistic foundation, engineering and professional foundation courses, and the second two years are devoted to the study of professional courses. In the training plan, we pay attention to the cultivation of practical links and students' practical ability. The practical links run through the four years of the University from shallow to deep, and the proportion of practice reaches 57%. Among the courses of this major, mechanical design is a national bilingual course, engineering training and mechanical principle are excellent courses at Beijing municipal level, and automatic control principle, measurement and control system design and computer control technology are excellent courses at school level.

With solid foundation of mathematics and natural science, master mechanical foundation, electronic technology, computer technology, sensing and testing technology, control technology and other professional knowledge, have engineering practice ability, professional expression ability, and be able to engage in research, design, manufacture and management of automatic inspection and control system in rail transit and other fields.
At present, there are 47 teaching staff (excluding managers) for measurement and control technology and instrument specialty, including 15 professors, 25 associate professors, 14 doctoral supervisors and 23 master supervisors. The proportion with doctoral degrees is 68%, and more than 93% of teachers have more than five years of teaching age. One academician, four talents of the Ministry of Education in the new century and three winners of the Zhan Tianyou Award of the Ministry of Railways are included in the teaching staff. At the same time, there are also a group of excellent lecturers at school level and two famous teaching teachers in Beijing.
The measurement and control technology and instrumentation specialty of Beijing Jiaotong University has high-quality practical conditions, such as national experimental teaching demonstration center of mechanical engineering, National Physics and basic courses base of electrics and electronics. At the same time, it relies on the State Key Discipline of "Carrier Tool Application Engineering", the Engineering Research Center of the Ministry of Education of "Rail Vehicle Structural Reliability and Operation Detection Technology" and the National Defense Key Laboratory of the Ministry of Education of "Advanced Manufacturing and Control Technology of Carrier Tools".
In recent years, the teachers majoring in measurement and control technology and instrument have undertaken and completed a number of national and provincial scientific research projects, such as NSFC, national key scientific and technological projects, National 863 project, aerospace and military industry, etc. Such as Intelligent Perception and Comprehensive Monitoring of Service State of High-Speed Railway (NSFC Key Program), Service State Detection Technology of High-Speed Railway Infrastructure (863 Major Program), Early Warning System of Heavy-Duty Railway No-Load Vehicle Derailment, Ultra-High Speed Turbine Generator Test Stand (Military project). A distinctive research direction has been formed in the field of rail transit infrastructure security inspection and electro-hydraulic servo control. Over the past three years, scientific research funds for projects above provincial and ministerial levels have reached 66.17 million yuan. At the same time, extensive cooperation with enterprises such as railways and electric power has taken on a number of scientific research projects combined with actual production and good cooperation relationship has been established with relevant enterprises. In recent years, lateral scientific research fund also reached 47.79 million yuan.
The development of scientific research projects not only strongly improves the scientific research ability and engineering practice ability of the professional teachers, but also effectively promotes the professional construction and undergraduate teaching. Many scientific research achievements of the professional teachers have been transformed into teaching content, graduation design, experimental items and experimental equipment, thus improving the innovation and practical ability of students. The students majoring in measurement and control technology and instrument have won awards in national and provincial disciplines or professional contests for many times and achieved excellent results, with an average advanced study rate of 45% in recent three years.
