Introduction of Laboratory for Structural Strength Testing

Laboratory for Structural Strength Testing(Beijing Jiaotong University), China National Accreditation Service for Conformity Assessment approved by Beijing Jiaotong University, belongs to School of Mechanical, Electronic and Control Engineering and carries out inspection operation independently as well as undertaking economic and legal responsibility for the inspection data provided. This lab founded in 1982 was a teaching and researching lab for major of Railway Rolling Stock, Mechanical Engineering Department, in Northern Jiaotong University. The university got authorized by State Education Commission to confer doctor degree on Rolling Stock major in 1990, and established structural strength laboratory for rolling stock with advanced equipments. In 1994, this major was approved be to a focused development major by Ministry of Railways and one of the key construction projects of “211” project. After more than ten years of construction, the lab has become an important experimental and research base for railway rolling stock structural strength.

The lab got China Metrology Accreditation from Certification and Accreditation Administration of China in December, 2006, and China National Accreditation Service for Conformity Assessment (CNAS) in May.2009. It pursues to provide the fair, scientific, accurate and satisfactory service for the railway rolling stock products.

There is a strong research group and advanced test equipments for this lab. It has carried out huge amounts of application researches adapted to the development of railway transportation, as well as the fundamental researches. The main works include the strength and fatigue performance test research of the rolling stock material and components, the online dynamic stress test and fatigue assessment, the experimental researches on strength and stiffness and the fundamental researches such as finite element simulation, modal analysis, random load identification and dynamic simulation.

The lab has management office, testing group and simulation group etc.

Professor Sun Shouguang, vice president of Beijing Jiaotong University, serves as the top manager (director) of the lab. Professor Li Qiang acts as the top representative of managers (deputy director), technical Leader and quality director. The lab management team is composed of persons in charge of the groups and office, quality supervisors, administrators, inspectors and persons at simulation. Professor Liu Zhiming is in charge of the testing group and the equipments. Associate Professor Wang Wenjing is in charge of the simulation group.
